Skulte port authority
Skulte Port Authority administratively manages activities of the Skulte Port. The Port
Authority is a legal body and its highest decision making entity is the Board, but the
port manager has executive power. The Skulte Port Authority was founded on November 30,
1994 by decree of the Saulkrasti Town council.
Functions of the Skulte Port Authority:
- management of the port territory;
- maintenance of sea and river shipping lanes for ships;
- maintenance of piers and quays;
- environmental protection;
- control over observing of port regulations;
- collecting of port charges;
- construction as required by the port development programme;
- conclusion of contracts with enterprises that have
activities in the port.
The Skulte Port Captain is responsible for
the operational management of ships in the port and its linking shipping lanes and for
state control and supervision of shipping safety. Instructions of the Port Captain
regarding safety measures of shipping are binding on all ships, organisations, enterprises
and other legal and physical bodies.
